About NVBS
Excursion information

Netherlands Association of Railway and Tram Enthusiasts

Founded in 1931, this association with nearly 5000 members is active in many area’s.

Our monthly, fully-coloured magazine “Op de Rails” offers articles on to-day’s operation of the passenger and freight transport on the tracks in the Netherlands as well as abroad. It offers also articles on historic items and future projects all over the world. And, last but not least, the magazine announces and reports on the many activities of the association.

Nearly 25 local branches, spread over the country, are offering a possibility to meet other members and to learn of interesting subjects, brought by members or other specialised lecturers. One branch is especially focussing on model railways, another branch on the interests of younger members.

The Travel Foundation organises several excursions each year both in our own country, and in Europe and on other continents. We operate a well stocked bookshop where issues from all over the world can be found and where DVD’s and Video’s can be bought as well. Part of the books and films are produced by our own members and published by the association. Our centrally located library offers a wide choice of documentation on all aspects of rail transport in the Netherlands, our former colonies and other countries.

Our members have access to unique collections on every aspect of the rail-hobby, including all sorts of technical drawings and photographs of historic locations, locomotives and rolling stock. Under our own control are several unique collections on every aspect of the rail-hobby.

We are trying to be the home for train and tram enthusiasts of all ages and with all known fields of interest.

Stichting NVBS-Excursies

Excursion information (NVBS Travel)

The Stichting (Foundation) NVBS-Excursies (SNE) is a separate legal entity which acts as a tour operator and travel bureau for members of the NVBS. This foundation organizes excursions to destinations which are of interest for railfans in The Netherlands and abroad. The travel to main railway and light rail (tram) destinations take place, where possible, via rail.

Our travel history goes back to the year 1931 and has resulted in annually recurring one day events like the “Queens Day Trip” and the year-end tour during when typical Dutch donuts are served.

Abroad our multiple day Winter tours, ‘Schönes Wochenende’ tours to Germany and train holiday tours have been a success for many years.

We are always looking for opportunities to use special rolling stock and to visit special destinations. For instance rolling stock that is no longer in regular service or to travel freight-only lines. If safety conditions permit, photostops will be organized. We will make sure that light rail (trams) will receive its fair share attention. Sometimes group tours take place to rail infrastructures and rail lines that have been abandoned. The SNE organizes between 10 to 15 rail tours annually.
